The program involved upgrading Great Northern Highway between Muchea and Bindi Bindi in Western Australia’s wheatbelt. Brierty’s work included reconstruction and widening, realignment of substandard sections, construction of new passing lanes, intersection upgrades and improvements to roadside amenities including: Increasing road seal width in upgrade areas to meet current and future traffic requirements;

• Lowering selected hill crests to increase length of vision and improve safety;
• Realigning sections and adding passing lanes to reduce travel time and improve safety;
• Upgrading selected side road intersections and driveway locations to improve visibility and safety;
• Improving road reserve drainage;
• Minimising the extent of vegetation clearing and re-establishing vegetation to offset losses; and
• Installing and relocating services to accommodate roadworks as required
